These Mortal Cities are the proof that the indie rock scene is still alive and booming in the Midlands. Sheffield has the Arctic Monkeys, Manchester has the Courteeners , Leeds has The Pigeon Detectives, and now Derbyshire has their own unique brand of fresh and catchy indie rock. These Mortal Cities are a 3 piece indie rock band from the Peak District Derbyshire. Coming together in 2004, childhood friends, Sam, George and Jack took instinctively to writing quirky, feel good songs with engaging lyrics. In 2011, the band really broke through into the public domain, gaining slots at festivals such as YNOT and IAS, as well as having a busy gig schedule in Derbyshire and Manchester. After recording 3 songs earlier in the year and gaining a large amount of downloads, including over 2,000 on… SoundCloud alone, it sparked the interest of Sound-Hub. The band’s debut single, Charmers, got into the top 100 on the ITunes alternative chart in May 201. Charmers, alongside another release, Blue Skies, caught the ears of the BBC which gave them the opportunity to record a BBC Introducing session in January. Casanova Can’t Dance, has caught the attention of MUZU and their fun, intriguing video is gaining much admiration on Youtube. This young band is going from strength to strength, gaining recognition all the time. With their catchy hooks and sing-along choruses you cannot help but love these guys! "We loved it, what's not to like, it's easy on the ear and the catchy chorus stays with you long after the track's over!' - Della Wright, Midlands Music Maniacs
